| Established in 1992, Garden City English School
is proud of its history of providing high quality English language
tuition to a wide variety of international students. The focus
is on personalised attention for each student, in a relaxed and
friendly environment. Students must follow the rule of ‘Speak
English Only’ at all times while at school - this ensures that
students mix well socially together while creating every opportunity
to improve their level of English in the time spent studying at
the school.
The school is of medium size (50 - 90 students.) This allows
for a true ‘family atmosphere’ to exist where students can feel
comfortable and make new friends easily. The school is located
in a modern building, in the centre of the city, overlooking
the beautiful Avon River. Most things that students need on
a daily basis (Banks, Bus Exchange, Visitor Information Centre,
a variety of shops and places to buy food and other items) are
all within three minutes walk, or less, from school.
Keeping busy outside of school is also important and a major
emphasis is therefore placed on offering a range of activities
to suit the different needs of individual students. Every weekend
there is a planned trip away from Christchurch (this will either
be an overnight trip or a daytrip) - popular destinations include
Hanmer Springs or Maruia Springs for thermal hot pools, Kaikoura
for whale watching, Akaroa for swimming with Dolphins, as well
as Mount Cook, Queenstown, Nelson and Marlborough regions. A
popular in-school activity is ‘Free Lunch Friday’ - this happens
on a fortnightly basis and is a great opportunity for all students
and staff to experience a wonderful shared meal together - it
is like a guaranteed party every two weeks!
